Threat Management Detection and Response: How to Assess Your Threat Level and Reduce It

Private investigators routinely handle sensitive information, conduct high-stakes investigations, and serve clients ranging from private individuals to Fortune 500 corporations. Yet investigators and their firms can become attractive targets for malicious actors seeking access to those very clients. Recognizing that attackers frequently exploit the weakest link in a service chain, this session examines how a PI's personal digital exposure, business operations, employees, and professional relationships can create vulnerabilities extending well beyond the investigative firm itself.

Attendees will learn practical techniques to assess their personal and organizational threat levels, identify exploitable information within their online footprints, and reduce exposure to cyber and physical threats. The session explores how stalkers, hackers, doxxers, social engineers, and other malicious actors leverage publicly accessible information to identify, target, impersonate, or compromise investigators and their clients. Particular emphasis is placed on protecting client confidentiality, safeguarding investigative operations, and recognizing how seemingly insignificant information can facilitate sophisticated attacks against high-value targets.

Through real-world scenarios and actionable countermeasures, investigators will gain strategies to strengthen their personal security, protect their firms, reduce third-party vulnerabilities, and establish proactive threat detection and response practices.
